Dr. Eleni Gabre-Madhin is founder and chief executive of blueMoon, Ethiopia’s first youthagribusiness/agritech incubator and seed investor and promoter of blueSpace, the first fullservice co-working space company. Prior to this, she founded eleni LLC,Africa’s leader indesigning, building, and supporting the operations of commodity exchange eco-systems infrontier markets. Dr. Gabre-Madhin is also founder and former CEO of the highly acclaimedEthiopia Commodity Exchange (ECX) from 2008 to 2012, trading $1.2 billion annually in threeyears.A globally recognized thought leader, she has held prior roles at the World Bank, theInternational Food Policy Research Institute in Washington, and UNCTAD in Geneva. EleniGabre-Madhin has a PhD in applied economics from Stanford University, an MSc in AgriculturalEconomics from Michigan State University, and BA in economics from Cornell University, andreceived the Outstanding Dissertation award by the American Agricultural EconomicsAssociation in 1999.Eleni was recognized as Devex’ 2016 Top 5 Women Global Women of Impact, Newsweek 125Global Women of Impact 2013, New African 100 Most Influential Africans 2012, and Yara Prizewinner 2012, 50 Women Shaping Africa by The Africa Report in 2011, and Ethiopian Personofthe Year in 2009
