Mercy Lung’aho, RN, Ph.D. is a research scientist for the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT). With expertise in nutrition-sensitive agricultural programming, her research includes a landmark study from Rwanda documenting evidence that eating beans biofortified with iron can reduce iron deficiency and improve cognitive function in women of reproductive age.
Her current work has focused on food safety, drivers of food choice, food and nutrition policy, and nutrition interventions linking agriculture to nutrition and resilience building in national and regional food systems in Africa. She is a member of the American Society for Nutrition, the African Nutrition Society and a registered nutritionist at the Kenya Nutrition and Dietetics Institute among others.
